From standby to a familiar channel
Choose the player for the way you watch
Smart IPTV is the dependable choice on webOS 3.0 and newer: it shows a channel list and a guide, and it takes your M3U link uploaded from another device. IPTV Smarters Pro, where LG’s store lists it for your model, signs in on the TV with the Xtream Codes details and separates Live TV from Movies and Series. If the library’s older films and finished series matter as much to you as the live channels, Smarters is the better fit; if you only ever watch channels, Smart IPTV does the job. Not sure of your version? Settings, then General or Support, then About This TV.
Find the player in LG’s store
Press the Home button, open the LG Content Store (recent webOS versions call it simply Apps) and search for the player by name. Install it and open it once, so it can show its first screen and, for Smart IPTV, the television’s MAC address.
Smart IPTV: hand over the playlist from your phone
The first Smart IPTV screen shows the TV’s MAC address and the address of the developer’s upload page. Open that page on your phone, enter the MAC character by character, paste the M3U link from the chat and submit. Then close the app on the television completely, not just with Back, and reopen it so it fetches the list you sent. The channel groups appear in the order the playlist gives them.
IPTV Smarters Pro: type the login with the pointer
Choose Login with Xtream Codes API. The Magic Remote’s pointer makes the on-screen keyboard quick to use: aim and click each character for the server URL, with http:// and the port, then the username and password exactly as sent. Press Add User and let the channel groups and listings download before you open anything.
Pin the player to the home bar
Press Home, point at the player in the launcher bar, press and hold the wheel until edit mode starts, and slide the player next to the TV inputs. Then look in the General settings for Quick Start+, which brings the TV back from standby faster on the models that offer it. With the player first on the bar, the classics channels are two clicks from the power button.
Set aside the channels you come back to
Search the channel list for the classic film and repeats channels you will open most: TCM, Starz Encore (known for films from earlier decades), Hallmark for TV movies, or Gold and ITV3 in the UK. Add each to favorites where the player offers them. Smart IPTV arranges the list by the playlist’s categories, so if favorites are missing in your version, note which category each channel lives in.
Read one channel’s evening in the guide
Play TCM or another channel from that list, check picture and sound for a minute, then open the guide and roll the wheel along that row to this evening. The next film should show a title and a start time. If the row is empty, the listings have not arrived: in Smart IPTV, add the EPG link (xmltv.php) on the upload page where it offers a field; in Smarters, reload the guide from its settings. Once the row fills, the television is ready for regular evenings.
LG Smart TV faults, traced back to the cause
The Magic Remote pointer drifts or vanishes
The pointer hides after a few seconds of stillness; a gentle shake brings it back. If it drifts away from where you aim, point the remote at the screen and press the wheel once, or switch to the arrow keys, which every player accepts and which hide the pointer. A remote that ignores everything wants fresh batteries before anything else.
Sound plays over a black picture on one channel
That points to a video format the TV’s decoder dislikes on that channel, rather than a dead feed. Try the same channel in another group if it appears twice, and send its name in the chat so the feed can be checked. If several channels do it, update the TV under Settings, General or Support, Software Update, since a webOS update can change how the set handles video formats.
The guide is shifted by an hour
Check the television’s clock first: Settings, then General or System, then Time and Date, with the time set automatically and the right time zone. If the clock is right and the listings are still off, look for an EPG time shift in the player’s settings and adjust it by the gap. Reopen the guide and compare a slot with what is actually playing.
The upload went through but the TV shows the old list
Smart IPTV fetches the playlist when it starts, so pressing Back is not enough to refresh it. Close it from the running apps, or switch the television off at the wall for ten seconds, and open it again. If the old list persists, the upload may have gone to a different MAC. Read the address you typed on the phone against the television’s, and resend if a single character differs.
Channels far down the list take ages to reach
A full line-up is long, and stepping through it with arrow keys is slow on any television. Use the player’s search, or the Magic Remote’s wheel, which scrolls a page at a time. Better still, build the favorites list in step six, so the channels you open on most evenings sit at the top and the rest stay out of the way.
A fault that follows you from one screen to the next usually lives in the login or the connection rather than in this hardware, and the IPTVSOSO troubleshooting page works through those causes one at a time.

LG Smart TV and IPTVSOSO, answered briefly
Can I use IPTVSOSO on an LG Smart TV?
Yes, on webOS 3.0 and later, which covers most LG Smart TVs from 2016 onward. Smart IPTV is the usual player and takes the M3U link; IPTV Smarters Pro is an alternative where LG’s store lists it. No box is needed, and the 24-hour free trial shows whether your set and your connection are happy before you pay anything.
How do I check which webOS version my LG TV runs?
Look under About This TV, which sits in the General or the Support section of Settings according to the model year; the webOS TV version is printed there. Version 3.0 or later runs Smart IPTV. If the number is lower, check for a software update first, and if it stays below 3.0, a plug-in stick is the practical way to put IPTVSOSO on that television.
Which channels belong in an LG classics list?
Think in formats rather than titles: TCM for classic films, Hallmark Movies for TV movies, Starz Encore and MoviePlex, both known for films from earlier decades, and Boomerang, known for older cartoons. In the UK, Gold and Dave run comedy repeats and ITV3 drama repeats. The classics on IPTVSOSO lists every channel of that kind, grouped by format.
Do I need a Fire TV Stick for IPTVSOSO on an LG TV?
Not on webOS 3.0 or newer, where Smart IPTV runs on the television itself. A stick makes sense on an older LG, or if you want TiviMate’s guide grid and recording, which LG’s store does not carry. Plug it into a spare HDMI port and follow the Firestick guide; the same login works on both, counted by the screens playing at once.
