Lined up before the first channel
- A Google TV or Android TV television, or a box such as a Shield, Chromecast with Google TV or Google TV Streamer
- The device signed in to a Google account
- Your IPTVSOSO login: username, password and server URL
- An Ethernet cable, if the box has a port and the router is within reach
No login in hand yet? The free 24-hour IPTVSOSO trial arrives as the same three details a paid term uses. The full price list sets out every length and screen count.
From standby to a familiar channel
Choose the player by how you browse
Think first about how you find something to watch. If you scan a listings page and pick whatever starts next, TiviMate is the player: the grid guide and channel switching are free, while favorites, hidden groups, recording and multi-view come with TiviMate Premium. If you usually start from on-demand menus, IPTV Smarters Pro keeps Live TV, Movies and Series in separate sections. Both accept the Xtream Codes details, which carry the program guide with them, so the M3U link can stay in the chat for now.
Install it from Google Play
Google Play lives in the Apps row, or under the Apps tab on Google TV. Search there for TiviMate or IPTV Smarters Pro and install it. Read the developer name on the listing before pressing Install, because copies with near-identical icons turn up in search. If Google Play on an unbranded box shows neither player, the box runs a phone edition of Android; the first fault below explains the workaround.
Type in the Xtream Codes details
TiviMate starts from Add playlist, then Xtream Codes; IPTV Smarters Pro calls the same form Login with Xtream Codes API. Enter the server URL with its http:// prefix and port, then the username and password exactly as they arrived in WhatsApp. A slip in the server line is the usual reason for a refusal, so read it twice before pressing Next. Then leave the remote alone while the channel groups and the listings download; on a budget box that can take two or three minutes.
Trim the groups you will never open
A line-up drawn from 60+ countries is a long scroll, and every group you skip slows the trip to the film channels. In TiviMate Premium, the playlist’s settings include a groups list where you can hide whatever you will never watch; in IPTV Smarters Pro, collapse the groups you pass over. Keep the film, entertainment and music groups for the countries you watch from, plus sport and news if the house wants them. Fewer groups means the guide reaches a classic film channel in a few presses rather than a few dozen.
Put the player where the remote lands
On Google TV the player sits in the Your apps row; highlight it, hold the select button and choose Move to bring it to the front. Older Android TV home screens offer the same Move option on a long press. If your player has a setting to open with the device or to reopen the last channel, switch it on, and the television comes back to the channel you left the night before.
Make a favorites list for the old slots
Search rather than scroll for the channels that carry classics formats: TCM for classic films, MoviePlex and Starz Encore, both known for films from earlier decades, Hallmark Movies for TV movies, and Boomerang, known for older cartoons. Long-press each one in the channel list and add it to favorites. In TiviMate the favorites form their own group, which you can move to the top of the guide, so the whole classics list reads as one block of rows.
Check a film channel against its guide row
Open the favorites group, play TCM or the first channel on the list, and give it a minute to confirm picture and sound. Bring up the guide with whichever button opens it in your player, move along that channel’s row and find the next film: the title, the start time and the end time should all be filled. If the row says no information, give the listings ten minutes and refresh the guide from the player’s settings. A playing channel with a filled row means the setup is complete.
Android TV faults, traced back to the cause
Google Play does not list TiviMate on an unbranded box
Some inexpensive boxes run the phone edition of Android, and Google Play hides TV apps from them. Install Downloader from Google Play instead, allow it to install apps in the box’s security settings (the exact path differs by model), then fetch the player from its developer’s published link, which support can send in the chat. A box with no Google Play at all is worth replacing with a Google TV device.
The guide grid shows the right films at the wrong times
The box’s clock is set to the wrong time zone. Open the device settings, find Date and time, and either switch on the automatic time zone or pick your own; then refresh the guide in the player. If the box is right and the listings still run early or late, many players, TiviMate among them, offer an EPG time shift in the playlist settings; move it by the size of the gap and compare a slot with what is on screen.
A classic film looks soft next to a sports channel
Older films and shows were made in SD or HD, and no box or player turns them into 4K; the TV scales them up, which always looks softer than a picture made in 4K. That is normal. What you can avoid is a second layer of softness: if the box has a resolution setting, set it to the TV’s native output, and switch off any extra sharpening on the television, which tends to draw halos around faces.
The channel buttons wander out of the favorites list
In most players, channel up and down move through the group the channel was started from. Start from the favorites group rather than All channels and the buttons stay inside your classics list. If the player still escapes the group, its settings usually include a channel-switching option that decides whether up and down follow the group or the whole line-up.
A fault that follows you from one screen to the next usually lives in the login or the connection rather than in this hardware, and the IPTVSOSO troubleshooting page works through those causes one at a time.

Android TV and IPTVSOSO, answered briefly
Can I watch IPTVSOSO on a Chromecast with Google TV?
Yes. Every Google TV device, the Chromecast included, installs TiviMate from Google Play, and the steps above apply without changes. The only difference is the home screen: installed apps appear in the Apps tab and the Your apps row rather than on a plain list.
Is TiviMate or IPTV Smarters Pro better for IPTVSOSO on Android TV?
For live channels, TiviMate: its guide grid is the closest thing to a cable listings page, and favorites in TiviMate Premium keep a classics list at the top. For evenings that begin in the on-demand library, IPTV Smarters Pro is free and keeps films and series apart. Plenty of people install both, since one login signs into each.
Which Android TV box handles IPTVSOSO best?
Any recent Google TV device copes with live channels and older films. The Nvidia Shield scrolls a long guide fastest and handles 4K HDR without strain; a Chromecast with Google TV or a Google TV Streamer is the sensible middle ground. For an unbranded box, look for at least 2 GB of RAM plus a wired network port, and treat generous-sounding specifications with suspicion.
Can I record a film from a classics channel on Android TV?
Only if your player records and the box has room. TiviMate Premium includes recording, which helps when a film slot clashes with something else. Where a channel carries catch-up, the guide may let you play a recent showing without recording at all; how IPTVSOSO catch-up works explains which channels offer it and how to spot them.
